Avid Techies Expectant of iPad 2.0

Potential iPad buyers are now anticipating for the January release of the new iPad.

As of last week September, Apple has reported 7.46 million iPads sold and is expecting more as the holiday shopping season approaches as the most popular tablet device gift. The iPad is being sold through Apple as well as major retailers such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart. However, TJ Maxx claims to have limited supplies of the iPad for the holiday season.

Further details of the iPad 2.0 may be announced by December or early January. But people adept to the latest technology are looking forward for the new features of this next-generation iPad.

Words are rounding about the next iPad to have FaceTime, Apple mobile video chat standard, which debuted with the iPhone 4 and was included in the iPod Touch in September.

There were also reports, last February, of the present iPad to have a space for a camera in its internal frame. People familiar with the matter and a reliable source of Apple’s future product plans told Apple Insider that the company was in the process of testing a version of FaceTime for the iPad.

If FaceTime would be present in the iPad 2.0, then it would need a front-facing camera, which draws debate whether to add a rear-facing camera as well. Detwiler Fenton an analyst at an investment firm said late October that based on Apple’s supply chain and product development, the next iPad is projected to have a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.

However, with the release of Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab with a 3.2-megapixel camera, many users of the device as a digital camera found it a bit awkward. If that is so, can you imagine using a 10-inch iPad taking a snapshot?

Analysts at Goldman Sachs have suggested ideas of the next iPad features to be thinner, lighter and have a mini USB port, as reported by Bloomberg. This mini USB port is likely to replace the 30-pin dock connector which is used in the current iPad version.

There are also reports that Apple is preparing component manufacturers for the iPad 2 and will start production in February, according to Digitimes in Taiwan. Although many critics and analysts are expectants of the transformed iPad in January, a year after the launch of the original iPad.
