Associated Press reports that Samsung is becoming more vocal about its efforts to go on the offensive against Apple in the patent dispute between the two companies, accusing Apple of “free riding” on Samsung’s intellectual property with its products.

Associated Press reports that Samsung is becoming more vocal about its efforts to go on the offensive against Apple in the patent dispute between the two companies, accusing Apple of “free riding” on Samsung’s intellectual property with its products.

“We’ll be pursuing our rights for this in a more aggressive way from now on,” Lee Younghee, head of global marketing for mobile communications, said Friday in an interview.

Lee, a senior vice president at Samsung, did not say what form the South Korean company’s stronger stance would take or if there would be more lawsuits. But her remarks suggest a definite change in tone. She described its previous approach as “passive.”

Lee suggests that Samsung has been relatively “passive” in the dispute thus far out of respect for the fact that Apple and Samsung have a close relationship for component supplies, although Apple is reportedly looking to minimize its reliance on Samsung in that regard.

Lee said that Samsung has kept that relationship in mind amid the dispute with the Cupertino, California-based company, and has largely been pulling its punches.

“We’ve been quite respectful and also passive in a way” in consideration of those links, Lee said during the interview in her office at Samsung’s headquarters building in southern Seoul. “However, we shouldn’t be … anymore.”

It hasn’t taken Samsung long to follow through on its promise to become more aggressive, as Dutch site Webwereld.nl reports [Google translation] that Samsung has filed suit against Apple in The Hague, requesting a ban on sales of Apple’s 3G-enabled iOS devices in the Netherlands. The suit explicitly names the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, and original iPad, but does not limit its claims to the listed devices.

Apple argues that the patents in question are so basic to wireless telecommunications technology that they should be subject to FRAND (fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory) conditions that would require Samsung to license them to all competitors under fair and reasonable terms, which Apple does not believe Samsung has been offering in its discussions over the patents. FRAND conditions are applied by standards-setting organizations in certain situations to prevent companies from engaging in anti-competitive behavior by refusing to license patents that are crucial to a given industry.

Earlier this week, sources within Samsung also indicated that the company is planning to target the iPhone 5 with patent lawsuits as soon as it is introduced.

New cameras, faster processor - will Apple launch two phones?

The rumours are growing every day that Apple is about to launch not one, but two new phones in October: the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5. Here’s all you need to know about the feasibly forthcoming iPhone 4S.

It seems unlikely that Apple will launch two new phones at once, as the previous phone (in this case, the iPhone 4) is always made available at a lower price with a smaller storage capacity.

If you’re desperate to know what we think will be coming from the top end new Apple device, check out our iPhone 5: All You Need To Know video below:

But with more information emerging about a phone with ‘minor updates’ from the iPhone 4 emerging all the time, here’s what we know about the rumoured iPhone 4S:

The iPhone 4S will be a minor update to the iPhone 4

In a similar move from the iPhone 3G to the 3GS(which saw only a slight processor improvement, video camera and compass added) the iPhone 4S will only feature slight spec upgrades, according to Jefferies and Co. analyst Peter Misek:

“According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support,” he wrote.

These claims of ‘better cameras’ have been corroborated by leaked images of the new cameras from Apple.pro to be used in the next version of the phone - the iPhone 4S will reportedly have a separate flash from the main sensor.

The iPhone 4 has the flash built directly into the camera unit, so the new design could herald an even thinner iPhone 4S too.

iPhone 4S construction

Photos of what is supposedly the iPhone 4S were published in July showing a familiar-looking handset with a plastic casing in place of the iPhone 4’s glass finish.

It’s almost impossible to tell if these photos are the real deal; they could easily be of a regular iPhone 4 onto which an enterprising fraudster has transplanted into a plastic casing - or simply a pasted a matte cover - but it would go a long way to removing the possiblity of Antennagate again, plus would bring down the cost of building the device to help make it a truly budget iPhone.

iPhone 4S screen

Conflicting reports in August suggested the next Retina Display in the new iPhone will remain at 3.5-inches.

A leaked prototype LCD display component uncovered by the MacPost website fits exactly the same form factor as the iPhone 4.

That discovery could be interpreted in two ways. The first is that the iPhone 5 design will remain unchanged.

Secondly, it could add credence to rumours that Apple will launch a second tier ‘iPhone 4S’ that sticks to the iPhone 4 design.

The iPhone 4S is just a developer’s version of the iPhone 5

The nickname iPhone 4S could just represent a devloper’s version of the forthcoming iPhone 5, in order to stop the final hardware being leaked.

A select few games devs reportedly received a new iPhone in April, to help them prepare the best titles possible for the iPhone 5 launch.

9to5Mac reports that the new handsets feature Apple’s super-nippy A5 chip, allowing developers to create the fastest and best-looking mobile phone games yet possible.

9to5Mac’s source claims that the “iPhone 4S” is almost identical to the current iPhone 4, apart from the inclusion of the newer, faster processor.

The iPhone 4S replaces the faulty iPhone 5

Rumours of delays have dogged the upcoming iPhone 5 for months now, and rumours persist the device may be held back until early 2012.

The reason behind the hold-up, sources say, is the dual-core A5 processor that Apple is intending to use has been overheating - presumably this is a space issue in the thinner device, given the iPhone 4S is supposed to run with the same chip.

Many have speculated that this will see Apple waiting until the A6 chip is available, which won’t be until the beginning of next year.

If true, this could mean we will see a slightly updated iPhone 4S launch in autumn (another recurring rumour), with a more major upgrade made public after Christmas.

…or the iPhone 4S will launch with the iPhone 5

This one seems a lot more credible, with the iPhone 4S coming as an upgraded iPhone 4 to sit alongside the iPhone 5 on shop shelves.

Images have emerged of what is said to be components of the iPhone 5 as well as the insides of a re-tooled version of the iPhone 4, likely the iPhone 4S.

The images show a re-jigged A5 chip inside what is believed to be the iPhone 5, as well as a bigger battery capacity.

Alongside that are purported images of components inside something that looks like an iPhone 4 - showing off a plastic white casing and a dual core A5 chip.

Credit: MacPost

And more innocuously, Al Gore - a member of the Apple board - recently outed ‘new iPhones’ in a speech, which led to speculation of more than one model emerging.

Gore apparently told a leadership conference in South Africa: “Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month. That was a plug.”

It remains unclear whether Gore meant that there would be multiple models or many of the same new model. The source, Stuff Magazine South Africa’s Editor Toby Shapshak, says Gore did not clarify.

Later on Twitter, Shapshak followed up by saying “I clearly heard “iPhones”. I recorded it. Double checked. Clearly plural but could be millions of one model.”

iPhone 4S release date

If an upgraded iPhone 4 does launch with the iPhone 5, then it’s highly likley the two devices, running iOS 5, will be launched at the same time, with reports of a release between the 10 and 20 October seeming the most likely at this stage.

It will be interesting to see whether Apple does indeed bring out a dual-core model of the iPhone 4 - if so, then surely the company has big plans in store for the more powerful devices, so we should probably all get pretty excited at the possibility of all new applications being able to take advantage in the huge ramp up in power.

As spotted last week on iTunes, “Automatic Downloads” for apps on iOS devices has gone live. And although a bit unstable at the time, it’s working great for the most part.

Also live now on the AppStore is a “purchased” tab that lets you go through apps that you’ve bought on your account, or more specifically apps no longer on your phone.

“Automatic Downloads” works just the way you’ve heard / expect. Once enabled on your devices, when you purchases something on your Mac, it’ll automatically download it on your iOS device as well. You can choose whether you want this to be for just music or apps, or both, and whether you want to allow it to automatically download over 3G or not.

I gave it a quick shot and it instantly started downloading (putting aside the fact the AppStore is a bit slow right now, it’s getting hammered).

As for the purchased tab, simply open up the AppStore and tap on the updates tab and it’ll be right on top. You can even search in between all the apps. A fun highlight is you can even download apps that have been pulled from the AppStore, like the original Tweetie (too bad it doesn’t work anymore. mega sadface). It’s worth noting the iPad has had something similar for a while now (the price on the app will be replaced with a “install” badge if you own the app), but now it’s finally on iPhone.

This feature is just one of the MANY MANY interesting new features Steve Jobs presented at this week’s WWDC 2011 keynote! Have you tried it yet?

[Thanks: http://theappera.com]

Though a new iPhone is not expected to be announced this week, through the rest of June Walmart is offering the 16GB iPhone 4 for $147, or more than $50 off the usual $199 price, with a two-year contract.

The price reduction, which began on Monday, applies to both the AT&T and Verizon versions of the iPhone 4. The $147 on-contract price is also available for both the black and white models.

As usual, customers must buy a new two-year wireless and data agreement or qualified upgrade to obtain the subsidized pricing.

The deal was announced just hours before Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, a media event at which Apple usually unveils the next-generation iPhone. But numerous reports have indicated that Apple will not unveil a new iPhone at this year’s event, with the fifth-generation handset due to arrive later this year.

The length of the Walmart sale, which goes through June 30, could be seen as even further evidence that Apple has no plans to announce a new iPhone at the WWDC keynote. Typically a new iPhone model is available for purchase in the U.S. within a few weeks of its announcement, and the previous-generation model becomes available at a lower price point.

Discounts beyond the standard pricing for the iPhone are rare, but not unheard of. Late last year, Radio Shack cut iPhone prices by $50 in a sale that left stores nationwide sold out.

Walmart, the largest retail chain the U.S., first began selling the iPhone 3G in some stores in 2008. It has been a close partner of Apple ever since, selling the iPhone 4 at launch last June, and gaining the iPad late last year.

The next-generation iPhone, scheduled for a September launch, will skip 4G for now, but may add Sprint and T-Mobile compatibility.

Reports surrounding the next-generation iPhone have ranged from the conservative to the outlandish. The latest prognostication about the next-gen iPhone’s features comes from Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek.

“According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support,” he wrote in a research note.

Misek’s guess at the name isn’t wildly far off. Remember, in 2008, Apple introduced the iPhone 3G and in 2009 introduced the iPhone 3GS — the “S” standing for speed. The 3GS had a faster processor in it. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that the next iPhone — one without 4G — would be called the iPhone 4S, especially if it includes the A5 processor as Misek suggests.

The A5 processor is the dual-core 1GHz beast that is in the iPad 2. Using the A5 in the next-gen iPhone also makes sense, and would follow Apple’s pattern of behavior in the past. (The original iPad had the 1GHz A4 processor, as did the iPhone 4.) Sticking the dual-core A5 in the iPhone 4S would certainly give it a kick in the performance pants. The A5, as experienced in the iPad 2, is blazing fast.

On the radio side of the equation, Misek believes it will support HSPA+, though he doesn’t note at which speeds. Right now, AT&T’s HSPA+ network supports an undefined speed above 14.4Mbps in regions “with enhanced backhaul.” T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network, by comparison, supports 21Mbps in many markets, and those speeds will double to 42Mbps in a handful of markets starting later this year.

Speaking of T-Mobile, Misek wrote, “Industry checks indicate Apple will likely announce Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Mobile as new carriers.” That means Apple plans to support a much wider range of radio configurations in the next-gen iPhone. Apple’s CDMA iPhone 4 for Verizon Wireless could, in theory, work on Sprint’s network today. In order for the iPhone to work on T-Mobile’s network, it would have to support T-Mobile’s AWS 3G bands, which are different from AT&T’s 3G bands.

There won’t be Long Term Evolution 4G on board, however, which is sure to disappoint some. Misek said that Qualcomm’s chipsets aren’t ready yet for numbers that big. (Verizon Wireless has only just begun shipping LTE-equipped smartphones.)

In the mean time, Apple is happy to sell black and white iPhone 4s through both AT&T and Verizon Wireless until it gets around to announcing its next device.

With Apple’s long-awaited white iPhone 4 finally on store shelves, GoSolarUSA (Stock Ticker: GSLO) is proud to announce that its white Volt Solar Charger is one of the few solar accessories for the hot new smartphone that match the device’s cool white hue.

“Much like the Volt, the white iPhone 4 has been hotly anticipated by Apple fans across the country,” said GSLO President and CEO Tyson Rohde. “The new Volt Solar Charger is one of a very small number of white solar battery packs compatible with the iPhone 4, which we believe will give our device a competitive advantage once the Volt goes on sale.”

Though the white iPhone 4 was announced by Apple last June, consumers eager to purchase the slick new smartphone had to weather a months-long delay before the device hit stores this week. Many Apple analysts predict that the long delay between the white iPhone’s announcement and availability created a unique mystique surrounding the phone that could drive sales of the new electronic status symbol.

“People have been waiting to purchase the white iPhone 4 for quite a long time, and now that it’s here, they aren’t going to want to cover up the hot new color with a black solar charger,” Rohde said. “Thanks to our accessory’s amazing functionality, we anticipate that the white Volt Solar Charger is going to be an in-demand accessory for white iPhone users.”

The initial run of the renewable-energy battery pack was manufactured in both black and white color schemes. Currently, the Volt is available only to the 100 winners of GoSolarUSA’s online waiting list giveaway. GSLO mailed 100 of the first Volt Solar Chargers to reach American shores to the lucky winners earlier this week. It is the only solar charger known to GSLO that is capable of charging the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G with the same accessory. The Volt includes a larger battery than many competitors and comes with a USB cable for use in charging and syncing the iPhone indoors.

For more information on the Volt Solar Charger and other solar energy projects, please visit http://www.gosolarusa.com/investors.

GoSolarUSA is dedicated to aggressively acquiring, developing and marketing promising and potentially profitable technology. The Volt Solar Charger is a product of Xiamen Solar Electronics based in Xiamen, China. The iPhone is a product of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), which competes in the global mobile electronics market against Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: MMI) and Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM).

In such an information-loaded society, people are increasingly dependent on networks, whether through a computer or a phone. Consequently, computer and phone accessories spring up in the market, which brings a great number of chances for customers, as well as more trouble in choosing a quality one.

After comprehensive research of market and customer demand, Shenzhen Wuzhou Changlian International Trading Co provides a great number of series of iPhone cases, including model of iPhone 3G/3GS/4G, iPad, iPod, and other models like Blackberry, or other phone accessories. There are more than 50 kinds of products with more than 20 colors. No matter what one’s occupation and age may be, customers will find their favorite ones.

We realized that a quality case would bring great comfort and convenience to both the phone and the user. In the opposite, if unluckily we pick up a loose, fragile case, our fashionable expensive iPhone may be damaged, probably needing high-cost remedy.

After the Catherine Cooper’s visit to Zambia, Shenzhen Wuzhou Changlian International Trading Co. plans to establish long-term friendly business relationships, which is scheduled to start at the end of 2011.

A diverse series of heath care equipment is available on http://www.cellphone-case.net .

For countless months, iPad and iPhone owners longed for Verizon to swoop down from on high and offer them versions of their favorite devices free from the accursed AT&T network. Now, users have those Verizon-based Apple gadgets–along with the first consistent reports of a recurring problem unique to one of them.

Owners of Verizon’s native iPad 2 with both Wi-Fi and 3G (in 16, 32 and 64GB memory configurations) are complaining in online forums that they must reboot their devices if they want to connect to 3G after previously switching that feature off.

The Apple Support Discussion boards list five pages discussing the problem. Wi-Fi functions work well enough, but 3G connections either take several minutes or never occur at all. While there’s no clear evidence that all Verizon iPad 2 users face the same problem, the complaints coming in from those affected are very similar. When the Verizon iPad 2’s 3G function is deactivated, it will not reactivate or connect without a reboot. Switching the device in and out airplane mode has no effect.

Board posts complain of hours on the phone to Apple Customer Service and trips to the Genius Bar without solving the problem. Some extreme cases report Apple Store reps tapping out and simply handing over a replacement iPad 2–only to see the same problem return.

Multiple forums offer the same procedure for overcoming the problem:

1. Turn the cellular data switch to on.
2. Power off the iPad.
3. Power up the iPad.
4. Turn on cellular data. Data switch is already on.
5. The Verizon service turns on and connects properly.

Still, some users grow weary of repeatedly rebooting their devices–Verizon iPad 2 owners are starting to contemplate the previously unthinkable: returning to AT&T and its overworked, much maligned 3G network for better connectivity.

Apple has just announced details of the Apple WorldWide Developers Conference (WDDC2011) 2011. The event will take place June 6th - 10th in San Fransisco and will cost $1,599 to attend.

Apple are billing the event as “A preview of the future of iOS and Mac OSX”. The key thing to note is that the conference has generally been the place where all the new iPhone models have been unveiled.

The Apple iPhone 3G was unveiled at the WDDC in 2008. the iPhone 3GS in 2009 and the iPhone 4 in 2010. Spotting the pattern is easy and it looks almost certain that the 2011 event will mark the unveiling of the iPhone 5.

The rumours about the iPhone 5 have been circulating for a long time and it was originally suggested it wouldn’t feature NFC (Near Field Communication Technology) and would have the same retina display as the iPhone 4.

However, the latest information is suggesting it will have a larger 4 inch screen and will support NFC technology. Additionally, it is thought to have a metal chassis to solve the antenna problems that plagued the launch of the iPhone 4.

Once we hear more we’ll let you know.
